How to Hire a Podcast Editor or Producer

Editing and production take hours per episode. Hiring help frees you to focus on the conversation — here is how to choose well.

1. Know what you need

An audio engineer cleans up and mixes sound. A video editor cuts long episodes and short clips. A producer plans episodes, books guests and manages delivery. Many shows need one or two of these, not all.

2. Review real work

Ask for samples similar to your show. Listen for clean sound and natural cuts; for video, watch pacing and captions on clips.

3. Agree on the details

Before starting, agree on turnaround time, number of revisions, file formats and price per episode. Writing it down avoids surprises.

4. Start with a trial episode

One paid trial episode shows how someone works before you commit to a longer arrangement.
